Rega Turntables Are Superb And We Couldn't Make It Any Planar

Here at Audio T Preston we are pleased and proud to say that we stock the entire British made Rega Planar turntable range, from the modest entry level Planar 1, all the way up to the range topping RP10.

Rega Planar 1
This is a great entry level record player for anyone starting out listening to vinyl. It's easy to set up, and you can buy with confidence knowing that you are buying British and getting the best performance you can buy at this price point. The RB110 tonearm with the Rega Carbon cartridge combination works really well together. It sounds great and is easy to use and easy on the pocket. The P1 is available in two different finishes black and white and costs just £248 and is excellent value for money.

Rega Planar 2.
The next step up the Rega record player ladder is the P2. Whilst this turntable shares the Rega Carbon cartridge with the Planar 1, this is where the similarities end. The Planar 2 has the RB220 tonearm, which requires minimal set up to get the best from your vinyl collection. It also introduces a heavier glass platter, which increases performance. Like the Planar 1 this turntable is available in black and white finishes and costs only £375.

Rega Planar 3.
This multi-award winning incarnation of an iconic turntable has managed to improve vinyl reproduction even further. With structural bracing top and bottom between the sub platter and the RB330 tonearm, this turntable has been the benchmark model for avid vinyl listeners for many years. The RB330 arm requires the standard set up, however for even better performance this can be purchased with a variety of Rega's own cartridges to improve sound quality. We're on hand to guide you with the set up and offer a cartridge fitting service so that your music sounds as good as this turntable can reproduce. The Planar 3 is available in black and white finishes.

Rega Planar 6.
The newest edition to the range features the Neo PSU electronic speed change, advanced anti-vibration control and user adjustable electronic fine speed adjustment which until now was only found on the RP10. With a two tone black finish, dark matt grey at the top and high gloss black around the edges, this player looks stunning. We have our Planar 6 fitted with the Ania moving coil cartridge and the performance is outstanding. The Planar 6 can also be purchased with Rega Exact moving magnet cartridge.

Rega RP8
The RP8 is a ground breaking turntable which takes Rega’s design further than ever before. With low mass, high rigidity plinths combined with an electronically controlled low vibration motor, it makes this player a true force to be reckoned with. The RP8 is the first of Rega's “skeletal” design turntables with a new plinth using custom materials and the RB808 tonearm. Our demonstration RP8 is complete with the Apheta 2 MC cartridge. You can also get it with the new Ania MC cartridge.

Rega RP10.
As with the RP8, the RP10 utilises the skeletal design and space age materials, however the RP10 is fitted with the RB2000 tonearm, which is simply stunning both in appearance and in performance. The RB2000 tonearm requires the standard set up (we can fit this for you) and has a ceramic platter and a dedicated power supply, which is the same size as Rega's Brio amplifier. The combination of the changes from the RP8 to the RP10 make a huge difference in performance and make this turntable the one to aspire to own. The only way to truly appreciate just how good your music on vinyl can sound, is to bring it in and take any Rega record player for a spin in our comfortable demonstration rooms.

Classic Vinyl Evening #2, Tuesday 9th September

We are pleased to announce that following the success of our first vinyl evening, we will be returning to The Bridge Pub for another evening of musical entertainment.

This time around the album is going to be Bryter Layter by Nick Drake. We will be using a recent repressing cut from a back up copy of the original master tapes that had been kept safe by the producer Joe Boyd.

Equipment wise, the mighty Rega RP10 will be making a triumphant return but will be fed into into Naim Audio electronics (exact set up TBC) and PMCs latest speaker the Twenty 26.

Our new PMC Twenty 26 speakers have arrived and are playing instore.

You can read about them here.

Seating is limited, so please get in touch if you would like to come along to avoid any disappointment.

Doors open at 6pm, album start 6.30pm.

UPDATE...

Just to let you know our second Classic Album Evening went swimmingly and a good time was had by all.

Here is some feedback from one of our patrons.

Just a quick message to say thanks for
another excellent evening.  It was great to be able to hear
the new PMCs - they are such a natural and involving
sounding speaker - and it has certainly given me aspirations
to eventually own at least a pair of Twenty 21s.  Nice
choice of album too, and love the fact that you played
'Solid Air' after the Nick Drake.  Danny
Thompson's bass playing really came through well!

Matt.

The Ceramic Revolution?? Oh yes, and it's called a Rega RP10.

The Rega RP10 in Audio T Manchester.

RB2000 tonearm.

The RB2000 uses the latest award winning Rega arm tube. Each one which is meticulously hand polished (keeping mass to an absolute minimum) and has been completely redesigned to redistribute mass and further reduce stresses and resonances. This advanced design tube increases the stiffness and rigidity of the overall assembly whilst reducing stress on the bearings even further.

The Apheta cartridge. Mounted on the RB2000.

Super flywheel effect ceramic platter

Yep..thats right, the words "super and fly" a la Curtis Mayfield are used to describe the RP10. Say no more!!!

The RP10 uses a custom ceramic flywheel effect platter. The platter is produced from ceramic oxide powder which is compressed, fired and diamond cut to ensure perfect accuracy and flatness across the surface. The new platter features a modified construction over the previous P9 version with improved coupling to the sub platter.

Skeletal plinth design with polyolefin foam core, which is created using nitrogen bubbles, all of which are the same size, just like a pint of Guiness.

Controversially Rega has always researched methods of producing light but stiff and rigid plinths. The technology is simple: unwanted noise at microscopic levels is developed by the turntable motor and main bearing. The plinth can also pick up airborne vibration from the music. From the beginning in the 1970’s Rega pioneered the use of a stressed skin structure for the plinth. This uses two layers of phenolic resin with a lightweight particle or fibre board sandwiched between the skins. This technique has been used in many applications where stiff, light structures are needed such as an aircraft wing or a Formula 1 chassis.

"Now thats whats you call polished to perfection" so sayeth the wise Chromey.

The motor drives the CNC machined pulley, sub platter and hub-bearing assembly via the twin belt drive. Each motor is individually hand tuned to its own custom power supply in the factory to minimise vibration, motor noise and ensure optimum performance.

How does it sound ?

"At the moment I have only tried the RP10 with the Rega Apheta, which gives a huge soundstage and very fast sounding with no bass overhang . After a few records I felt I could listen to this combination all night! and thats what happened. Detail just poured out of the speakers. Would I sell my current turntable for this ?  possibly"

The Rega RP10 on display and demonstration at our Manchester store.

Please feel free to call in and ask Dave,Munir,Mike or Kevin for a demonstration.

Thanks.
